My mother always made perked coffee and now everyone uses drip coffee makers. Why? Which method produces the best coffee?

Are coffee makers like Tassimo and Senseo compatible, so that if you use a Tassimo, say, you could use Senseo coffee? Or do you always have to use the same coffee as the coffee maker itself?

I have to write a business plan for an MBA class, and I need all kinds of industry information about coffee makers. IE: industry size, maturity, trends, impact factors, industry standards, opportunities, obstacles, etc.
I tried Google but I just can't find the specific information I am looking for. Anyone have any other ideas?

I was just curious if a standard coffee maker (you know, the things that mix the grounded coffee beans and water to make coffee in a pot.) will work with hot chocolate powder the same way?
